Fees & Rates
There is a ($10.00) non-refundable administrative and meter reading fee charged for all service connections and transfers involving a new or revised water service account.
In the event our Serviceman is unable to leave the water meter on due to flow at the water meter (i.e. leaks, faucets left on, toilets running) and the customer or a customer's representative is not present to shut off the water flow, the serviceman will not leave the water meter on. The Water Department will bill the customer's account ($25.00) for a second trip service charge.
Reconnection fees for non-payment are charged during both regular ($30.00) and after hours ($40.00).
A $30.00 charge is made for all returned checks. If disconnection occurs, the amount of the returned check, the returned check charge and the reconnect charge ($30/$40) must be received by the Water Department before service can be restored. Payment must be made with cash or money order only. The Water Department reserves the right to require customers with returned checks to become cash only customers and to increase the security deposit amount.
A charge is made for all service calls after 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday and anytime during weekends or holidays. Please ask our representative for the amount of the charge prior to scheduling a service call. (913)727-1902
Meter tampering is not allowed. The consequence can be service disconnection, reconnection charges, security deposit increase, fines and damage assessments.
(Effective January 01, 2010).
The Waterworks Board sets rates on a declining rate structure.
In other words, as water usage increases, the water rate decreases.
A base (minimum) charge of $11.73 applies to all retail customers
each month. This base charge also pays for the first two units (0,1
or 2 units) of water usage. An additional amount is then charged
for each unit above the base charge for the first two units. The
retail water rates for additional usages above two units are as
follows:
-for the next 3 to 10 units of usage, the rate is $3.57 per unit.
-for the next 11 to 50 units of usage, the rate is $3.21 per unit.
-for the next 51-1000 units of usage, the rate is $2.67 per unit.
-for 1001 and over units of usage, the rate is $2.04 per unit.
The below chart shows the costs, based on the above rates, for 0
to 120 units of water.

The minimum wastewater service charge for residential customers who
do not have a record of average monthly consumption of water is $18.50
per month, which consists of a user charge of $10.92 and a capital
charge of $7.58. This wastewater sewer rate is based on 7 units per

The City of Leavenworth provides residential pick-up by City crews once a week. The charge for the service appears on your water bill each month in the amount of $15.09 per unit (residence). Please review your water bill to ensure you are paying for the appropriate number of housing/building units. Please place refuse in disposable bags (not trash cans) securely tied and set next to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day. Trash cans are not allowed on the curb. Trash bags will not be picked up out of trash cans. City Ordinance requires that you do not place your refuse out at the curbside more than 24 hours in advance of you date of pick-up. Questions?
